Telestream Announces Support for Latest Flash Standards

08.15.2008

Telestream, a Nevada City, Calif.-based developer of video encoding technology, has announced encode/decode support for Flash 7, 8 and 9 video formats as a standard feature in its flagship FlipFactory automation products and Episode batch encoding apps.

Support for these advanced formats means that Telestream is one of the first companies in the industry to include support for On2 VP6 Flash decoding and encoding as a standard feature in its products, according to the company. On2’s VP6 is used in the Adobe Flash Video format, a popular standard for online video.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Telestream to put our superior-quality VP6 technology in the hands of all new Telestream Episode and FlipFactory customers,” said Eero Kaikkonen, chief marketing officer for On2 Technologies. “Delivering very high quality over lower data rates, On2 VP6-based Flash Video is less compute intensive to encode and play back than H.264, and is not subject to burdensome content royalties, enabling Telestream’s customers to cost effectively serve more compelling video.”

Telestream Episode desktop products with Flash start at $495. The company’s Episode and FlipFactory server-based transcoding products with Flash now start at $2,950.
